bear in the living room.

“Bears in dreams may represent a period of introspection and depression. However, this may be a part of a healing cycle, where the dreamer has retreated into himself in order to regenerate and in order to create something new and valuable in his life.” — The Bedside Dream Dictionary, Silvana Amar

kids shouting and running

in and out of rooms with no doors

ignoring my warnings of danger

my frustration bubbling

the school psychologist talks in gentle tones

soothing, calm, asking politely

the kids ignore that tactic, too

a dark haired jenny

standing arms and legs spread

a frozen jumping jill;

a snow angel with no snow

in the doorway with no door

facing the creature that roams on the burber

and she laughs.

the bear touches no one

he is silent

but ever present

not important to those encircling him

as they play tag

but i notice him.

there’s an odd disconnect

between how i should feel

and how i’m feeling

i know that

they should be fearful

but there’s no fear in my voice

only growing anger

because no one will listen.
